what problem are we solving here

So much of the way I operate as a practitioner but also just a human is centred around the question of 'why'.

what's the purpose, what problem are we solving, who is this for, what assumptions are we making ...

it's fundamental to doing my job well, to a justice oriented way of moving through the world, and it's just so much more interesting. Questioning everything doesn't mean disregarding everything that stands- sometimes things are right, or good enough for now, or worth a try. but intention is key to that and going into change with integrity.

This is on my mind as it's so core to my being but it's also a reaction to the politics around defining sex and gender in legislation. I just truly can't see what problem they think they're solving, what tangibly would change in a positive way. All I can see is marginalisation of a vulnerable group of society- including myself.

And over and above that, it just seems the opposite to the position they say they come from, that government and its regulatory functions should be small. if so, how can you possibly justify legislating on something so personal and unenforceable and culturally disrespectful, with no clear tangible problem or opportunity at hand?
