prioritisation

when you have adhd everything is important and urgent and it is all connected
that meme of chris/thor doing the skeptical face 'is it though'

well yes but actually no.

In some ways it's kind of ironic that a big part of my job, my value to organisations is related to prioritisation. But actually, like my pathological avoidance of being late, part of the reason I'm great at this because it's something I have to pay attention to.

And a big part of that comes down to the systems approach. Things usually don't just happen.

The autistic part of me doesn't want to do things without knowing why and that it's the right thing to do. The adhd part of me needs all the help it can get to start and keep at it, unless it's something really compelling. Both parts are anxious perfectionists but can and will lock in when it all aligns.

Systems approach is about setting up all the conditions to maximise success and minimise the factors that may lead to other outcomes. It aims to create a 'path of least resistance' through clarity on things like principles, values, and practice or way of working.

Organisations (and individuals) are the experts on their own systems, but often it does take an external perspective and nudge to recognise what the system in place actually is and produces, and a shared approach to designing something that produces the impact you actually want.
